Where Are You Trying to Go?

How many of you are thinking about going to college?  I know after seeing Beyoncé’s documentary “Homecoming” everybody is hype about going to a HBCU school.  Attending college is an amazing experience.  You meet people from all over the world, you become a young adult, and you’re working toward the person that you have always dreamt about becoming.  But in order to experience college or university two things must happen first.  One you have to be accepted into the school and two can your family afford to pay the tuition.

In today’s episode, I talk about knowing what your next move is.  Paying for college is a huge sacrifice that your family makes in order for you to further your education.  This is not an easy thing for any family to do, not unless your parent is Lebron James or Beyoncé, then this episode is not for you.  But when your parents or guardians say “Ok, you can go” that means that they are willing to support you mentally and financially.  So, today we talk about the importance of being clear as to what you want to do after high school.  I am not saying that you must go to college, but I am saying that if you do decide to go.  Stay focused and remember that someone is putting their dreams aside, so that your dreams may begin to come true.

During the episode, I mention an activity that I did with my girls after the college tour.  I created a template that gave my girls an opportunity to write down various cost of financial responsibilities that any family would have before including the cost of paying for college.  When you see the real numbers and how off balanced it could possibly be.  My prayer is that it forces you to become even clearer on what you want to do after high school.  Again, I am not saying college is for everyone, but if you are going to pick a trade, you have to pay for those classes also. The only way around not paying for post-secondary education is if you enlist in one of the many armed services or you hit the Powerball over the weekend lol.  But in order for you to understand the type of sacrifices that are being made, you must see the numbers for yourself. I encourage you to complete this activity with your parent/guardian.  If you love and care for your parents, like you say you do, then you will take the time to get clear on what your next steps are.  You don’t need to have it all figured out, but you must be honest with yourself and those who are supporting, providing and encouraging you along the way.

Enjoy the episode and talk to you in the next one!

Stop Overthinking It

What is keeping you from living your best life?  Are you thinking that every step of your process has to be in line, in order for you to start your task?  In today’s episode, I talk about how to stop overthinking things.  When it comes to overthinking I am the QUEEN.  For many years I have allowed my “planner” and “to-do” list ways keep me from moving toward my dreams.  Now don’t get my wrong.  Having a plan and being organized is ALWAYS important, but you should also be willing to learn and grow from every step that you are taking towards your goals and dreams.

Overthinking the process not only prolongs the dreams, but a lot of times it can keep a person stagnant.  I have list after list of things that I want to do, but I thought that my office needed to look a certain way, my voice edits for my podcast episodes needed to be perfect, and so on.  It wasn’t until late December that I realized that it’s either now or never.  I have made huge investments in P.U.R.E. Girls and I refuse to stay at this current level for another year.  It’s never going to be the right time and I won’t be able to avoid the mistakes that will occur.  Everything that I do from this day forward is solely based off of faith, belief and trust in God and myself.  When God gives us an idea for a project, a business, a career.  We aren’t suppose to just dwell on the idea, we must take action towards it.  You must do the research, talk to experts in those fields, watch tutorials, read the books and remain prayerful.  God sees into our hearts and knows all of our desires and dreams.  If they fall into place with his plan then it will work together for our good.  So stop overthinking everything and go get what is yours!

Sharing my Story with Ebony M. Watson

On today’s episode we have Ebony M. Watson.  Ebony is up and coming inspirational speaker who is eager to share her story of past struggles and abuse with teens and women around the world.  It’s never easy to share stories of struggles, feelings of low self-esteem and insecurities with groups that you are unfamiliar with, but Ebony goal is to share her raw stories and most private struggles with her audience.  One of the many struggles that she talks about is her experiences with in foster care.

During our conversation, we talk about her reasoning for wanting to share her story with the world.  How she overcame being physically and verbally abused while in foster care, which resulted in depression. I believe this episode will connect with all our listeners.  If you have ever been through something or currently going through an issue.  This episodes will let you know that you are not alone in your struggle.  We may not be experiencing the exact struggle, but there are people dealing with issues each and every day.  What I loved most about her story is how she didn’t allow her struggles to keep her from pursuing her dreams and goals.  Not only is she an inspirational speaker, but she also has her Masters in Social Work and is currently working within a school.

I hope you all enjoy this episode.  I pray that it inspires you to keep pushing through whatever is trying to keep you down.  You are more than a conqueror.

Pretty Girl Teez

I am sooo excited to share this podcast episode with everyone!  One of my goals when starting this podcast was to give young girls who are doing great work in school and there community a voice.  Their are so many podcasts now that are geared and focused solely on adults, but the more I looked at my own group of young girls I realized that people need to know the positive things they are doing.

I discovered Pretty Girl Teez when they started to follow our Instagram page.  After reading their business bio on their page I was interested in learning more about the company and the owner.  During this podcast you will learn more about the owner, Azaria Cherry and how Pretty Girl Teez and her non-profit, Z inc. came about.

Here is her bio for you to read:

Azaria Cherry is a 13 year old, rising freshman at Maury High School in Norfolk, VA. Since the tender age of 6 she has dreamed of attending Spelman and aspires to become a pediatrician. In fact, she is one of 48 students selected within the entire city of Norfolk to participate in the prestigious Maury Medical and Health Specialities program. A medical partnership between her high school and Eastern Virginia Medical School that allows students to take medical courses on top of their required Advanced Diploma workload. Azaria’s love for science, human rights, and entrepreneurship has allowed her to form her own organization for inner city youth girls and her own clothing business selling positive affirmation tee-shirts. In her spare time, she enjoys numerous volunteer community engagements, cheering on her high school JV squad, Forensics, National Jr. Honor Society, FBLA, and Swimming. Although her plate is extremely full she maintains nothing less than a 3.8 GPA. Over the next couple of years she looks forward to tackling more personal goals that she has set for herself.

I hope you are inspired by her story and goals for life.  I will forever be grateful for her, because by discovering her she forced me to research "How to record interviews for podcasting".  I kept making excuses as to why I couldn't record interviews, but because I wanted people to learn about this #Phenomenal young girl I challenged myself to find the solution on how to record an interview.

Please support and follow her on all her social media pages.  She is having a Back to School drive in the Norfolk area.  So if you are in the area reach out to her to see if she needs any assistance.
