Pretty Girl Teez

I am sooo excited to share this podcast episode with everyone!  One of my goals when starting this podcast was to give young girls who are doing great work in school and there community a voice.  Their are so many podcasts now that are geared and focused solely on adults, but the more I looked at my own group of young girls I realized that people need to know the positive things they are doing.

I discovered Pretty Girl Teez when they started to follow our Instagram page.  After reading their business bio on their page I was interested in learning more about the company and the owner.  During this podcast you will learn more about the owner, Azaria Cherry and how Pretty Girl Teez and her non-profit, Z inc. came about.

Here is her bio for you to read:

Azaria Cherry is a 13 year old, rising freshman at Maury High School in Norfolk, VA. Since the tender age of 6 she has dreamed of attending Spelman and aspires to become a pediatrician. In fact, she is one of 48 students selected within the entire city of Norfolk to participate in the prestigious Maury Medical and Health Specialities program. A medical partnership between her high school and Eastern Virginia Medical School that allows students to take medical courses on top of their required Advanced Diploma workload. Azaria’s love for science, human rights, and entrepreneurship has allowed her to form her own organization for inner city youth girls and her own clothing business selling positive affirmation tee-shirts. In her spare time, she enjoys numerous volunteer community engagements, cheering on her high school JV squad, Forensics, National Jr. Honor Society, FBLA, and Swimming. Although her plate is extremely full she maintains nothing less than a 3.8 GPA. Over the next couple of years she looks forward to tackling more personal goals that she has set for herself.

I hope you are inspired by her story and goals for life.  I will forever be grateful for her, because by discovering her she forced me to research "How to record interviews for podcasting".  I kept making excuses as to why I couldn't record interviews, but because I wanted people to learn about this #Phenomenal young girl I challenged myself to find the solution on how to record an interview.

Please support and follow her on all her social media pages.  She is having a Back to School drive in the Norfolk area.  So if you are in the area reach out to her to see if she needs any assistance.

Living My Best Life

Can you honestly say that you are living your best life at this very moment?  Are all of your dreams coming true?  Did you get accepted into top college choice?  Did you receive a new job offer?  Are you waking up every morning excited to see what God has planned for you today?  If you answered "no" to any of these questions, then this podcast is for you!

I was finally able to listen to the new Cardi B album and I am honestly enjoying it.  What I enjoy most about her music is the honesty, passion and rawness that she brings to each song.  I heard the song "Living My Best Life" back in May, but didn't pay much attention to the words (I was just happy to be vibin with my sisters that weekend lol.)  A few weeks have passed since hearing it, but I recently played the song this week and it is now in daily routine in my car!!

During this episode, I discuss a few of the rap lines that stood out most to me.  While listening to the song I, of course, started to reflect on my life.  Am I really living my best life?  My version of living my best life use to consist of driving a dope car, carrying a Chanel bag, shopping every weekend, eating out almost every night and working a high paying job.

Well let me bring you into my reality.  I drive a Honda Accord (she's cute, but she's no Benz), no Chanel bag, no shopping for me personally in almost a year(I shop for my children all the time), I can count on one hand how many times I have ate out this week, and my job is great, but it's not much left over once I pay my bills and take care of my kids and house.

So does this mean I am not living my best life?  No it doesn't.  I realized that I am working long and hard to achieving and receiving those things, but living my best life involves seeing my kids smile, having them dressed nice when we go places, and being a responsible adult and paying my bills on time, traveling with my husband, and spending time with my family.

I encourage to look around and find the small things that make living your best life your current reality.  Always remember to pray daily and believe that all your desires shall be added unto you.  I am excited to see your version of living your best life!

Choose Happiness

Do you want to be happy?  Do you know what it feels like to be happy?  Do you rely on others to make you happy? Or do you know how to make yourself happy?

In this week's episode, I talk to you about the importance of ALWAYS choosing happiness.  In lieu of the two recent celebrity deaths I felt the need to speak about what being happiness can bring to your life.  I know trials, issues, frustrations, sadness, emptiness are things that you possibly face everyday.  But what you need to understand is that the issues, trials etc. are not meant to break you.  They are put there to help you realize your strengths.

You might get tired, but during the episode I share with you how to find your "happy place".  I encourage you to take notes using our P.U.R.E. Moments journal.  This episode will have you thinking and wondering how to make your outlook on life much better.  Life is not easy, but it's definitely worth the ride.

My Mother and I

In this week's episode, I share with you my personal relationship with my mother.  As a little girl, my mother and I did not have the best relationship.  I rarely told her what was going in my life, at school or my relationships.  My reason being is because I never felt as though she would understand me.  My mother was the disciplinary of our family.  Anytime you got in trouble at school, my mother was the one who gave the beating, put you on punishment etc.

So when I left for college I viewed that as my way to distance myself even further from her.  I rarely called while away at college.  I went home often, but I never really shared with her my full college experience.  It wasn't until I had my daughter in May 2007 that my mother and I relationship began to rebuild.  For the first year of my daughter being born, my mother was with me every step of the way.  I was dealing with an emotional break up with my daughter father and my mother was there to remind me that all things will work and be ok.  During that year she shared stories with me about her past relationships and how she moved on from them.  When she opened up to me as if it was two friends talking, I started to see her in a different light.

As you continue to listen to the episode, you will hear more examples on how my mother and I have built an unforgettable bond.   I encourage you to allow your mom to be who she needs to be for you.  I know it may seem as though she doesn't understand you nor does she allow you to do much, but I promise it's only because her first assignment as your mother is to protect you.

I hope you enjoy the episode and I look forward to reading the comments.  Also, if you love it that much, please rate this episode and others on Itunes!

Nice for What

Ok if you haven't listened to the song "Nice for What" by Drake I need you to stop what your doing and click here (clean version). In this week's episode, I share with you my running experience during my 10 mile Broad Street Run.  Completing that race was such a great accomplishment for me.  I never imagined myself running 10 miles, but God spoke to me during that run and told me that if I apply this method of one foot in front of the other.  I will conquered my dreams sooner rather than later.

In the second part of this episode, I talk about how the song "Nice for What" is truly truly my anthem lol.  When I saw the hashtag #niceforwhat being used by Mrs. Kahlana Barfield Brown I wondered what she meant by that.  Then my cousin and few Philadelphia entrepreneurs made their own music video using this song and again I wondered who sung this song.  So one day after work I was listening to the radio, something I rarely do, and I heard the song.  I looked on my dashboard and saw the artist name and the song!!  I was sooo hype to have now put all the puzzle pieces together lol.

During the episode, I discuss how this song relates to me in more ways than one.  The song is empowering and motivating.  Majority of today's music doesn't shed light on women who are making positive moves within there communities, careers and lives.  The top of discussion these days about women mainly revolve around our body types and so on.  So for me this song is like a breathe of fresh air.  Mothers I encourage you to listen to this song with your daughter and have a conversation about the lyrics.

I would love to hear your thoughts about the song.  You can send your thoughts and comments to info@puregirlsinc.org and I will happily read and respond to your comments.
